The stations in the network are generally Maritime Signalling Establishments (MSEs).
The networks are organised in subdivisions. The central station (CS) is located in the management service offices and the secondary stations in the MSEs onboard marking buoys or in land-based establishments.
The stations are linked radioelectrically in the VHF band or through the switched telephone network (STN). Each network has a capacity of 200 secondary stations.
The secondary stations (SS) are equipped with relaying functionalities enabling up to 4 SSs to be linked up. 4 paths can be configured to link each SS to the CS. If a transmission fails, it is automatically switched from one path to another. The possibilities of coverage of each network are therefore considerable and there is a great deal of flexibility in terms of configuration. Users are free to choose the network structure that is best suited to their needs.
The stations acquire "All or nothing" statuses from analogue values and transmit remote control orders. They are equipped with a "logic" which limits transmissions to the strict minimum.
